Danvers Herald: Ice cream social to benefit Ritzer fund in Danvers

CR Sticker Opt 2Putnam Pantry Candies will be hosting an ice cream social to benefit the Colleen Ritzer Memorial Fund on Saturday, March 29, from noon to 4 p.m. One hundred percent of the profits received during this time will go directly to the Colleen Ritzer Memorial Scholarship Fund.

According to the scholarship fund, in honor of Ritzer’s passion to create a lasting legacy, the Colleen E. Ritzer Memorial Scholarship was established to benefit Andover and Danvers High School seniors who demonstrate a passion for teaching, academic excellence and love of family. Applicants must also plan to pursue a degree in the field of education at an accredited four-year college or university in the fall of 2014.

WCVB: Basketball team plays in slain teacher’s memory

cvLOWELL, Mass. —The Danvers High School boys’ basketball team came up short in the Division 2 North title game against New Mission Saturday, but the Falcons were playing for more than just a tournament win.

The team had hoped to get a win for beloved math teacher Colleen Ritzer, whose slaying in October shocked the community.

WBZ: Danvers High Boy’s Basketball Team Rallies For Colleen Ritzer

danvers1DANVERS (CBS) – The Danvers High School boys’ basketball team plays New Mission Saturday in Lowell in the Division 2 North Final.

The Falcons made the jump to D-2 this year, after winning state titles the past two seasons in Division 3. Fourteen state tourney wins in a row later, the success just keeps on coming under fourth year head coach John Walsh.

Danvers Herald: Andover road race to benefit Ritzer fund

dheraldA 5K walk and road race will be held on Sunday, May 4, in Andover to benefit the Colleen Ritzer Scholarship Fund.

The course will start and finish at Central Park in Andover. The course will run through parts of the bird sanctuary at Phillips Academy. The race will begin at 9 a.m.

The entry fee is $25 if you register beforehand online. The fee is $30 on race day.

Awards will be given to the overall winners in Male and Female divisions. There will be age group categories of under 12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 plus. T-shirts will be given to the first 2,000 registered walkers or runners.

Proceeds from the race will support the Step Up for Colleen Fund at the Essex County Community Foundation.

Concord Journal: Falconize wins top prize at Peabody sing-off

DANVERS

Falconize, the Danvers High School’s coed a cappella group won the top prize at A Cappella for A Cause at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School on Friday, Jan. 31.

Sponsored by the George Peabody Chapter of the National Honor Society, the event featured a “sing-off” among local high school musical groups to raise money for a charity of choice.

Danvers High’s Falconize took the prize and will receive a check in the amount of $1,000 to present to the Colleen Ritzer Memorial Scholarship.

ANDOVER — Nina Caron saw the good in slain Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer of Andover from a young age.

Caron’s oldest daughter was one of Ritzer’s closest friends growing up and, like many, she and her family were rocked by the young teacher’s death.
